Donald Macleod

Donald Macleod was born in Stornoway on the Outer Hebrides. He lives in a small remote village where his surroundings have been a huge inspiration to his work since he started painting at a young age. In 2004 he completed an NC Art & Design in North Uist, then returned in 2008 to achieve a degree.

Over the past 8 years he has experimented in the use of colour and brush strokes, focusing mainly on landscapes in oil, to produce a distinctive and vivid style of work.

“My art is greatly inspired by the changing colours in the land, sea and skies that surrounds me here on the Outer Hebrides.

The beach is one of my favourite subjects to paint, I have real admiration for the white gold beaches and turquoise water. I love the colours that appear to be hidden, that you may only catch a glimpse of for a second.

It’s these glimpses of colour that I love to express in my work and bring out for everyone to see.”
