Laura studied at Glasgow School of Art. Her influences are eclectic, her approach is fairly traditional.
She feels that the way something is painted is as important as what she is painting and why.
'The work should speak for itself.'
Laura’s work comes from a primary source, going through a ‘distillation’ process.
Her still lives are inspired by junk shop finds. Recycled treasures; things with a past; odd poetic juxtapositions of objects become invested with a peculiar symbolism.
Laura is also interested in the suspension of disbelief in theatre and film.
She enjoys words in a graphic sense and in their poetry – the imagery they conjure.
Quotes and lyrics often lead to ideas for her paintings.
Ten years living in Italy, has heavily influenced her work.
